Tuesday morning, Minnesota United announced the loan of homegrown striker Patrick Weah to USL Championship side FC Tulsa. The agreement is for the remainder of the 2023 season, with Minnesota holding the right to recall Weah at any point.
The 19-year old recently returned from an 18-month layoff due to a torn ACL, and has been playing exclusively with the Loons’ MLS NEXT Pro side, MNUFC2, over the last couple months. Since his return to the pitch, Weah notched two goals and one assist in his first three games with the “Twos”.
This isn’t the Wayzata High School alum’s first time being loaned to the Championship, as he made seven appearances for Sacramento Republic in 2021.
This is MNUFC’s second time loaning a player to the league this season, with Tani Oluwaseyi currently playing with San Antonio FC. Since his loan back in April, the youngster already has four goals and two assists in four runouts.
In the past, Minnesota has opted to loan players like Dayne St. Clair and Brent Kallman to the Championship to get valuable minutes and match experience.
